A Mind-Blowing Transformation: From Storage Shed to In Home Wine Cellar in Arlington
Quick summary of wine cellar project:
A customer in Richmond initially looked into their home’s guest room as a potential wine cellar, but there were some issues. Luckily, Harvest Wine Cellars was able to help the client find a better area in the home to convert into a wine cellar. They discovered that the double door shed would be a great option.
The shed used to be a place where the family kept lawn equipment and outdoor activity gear like balls and baseball gloves. The shed was originally built with the house, with its own pitched roof, and was in the back corner, adjacent to the living room and dining room in the hallway leading to the master bedroom. At first, Harvest Wine Cellars didn’t realize it was possible to convert the shed into a wine cellar, but they ultimately decided it would work well.
Harvest Wine Cellars created a 500-bottle capacity wine cellar with a contemporary design. They used the parallel racking system combined with Wine As Art single- and double-deep wine pegs to maximize the storage capacity in the converted shed space. The result is a beautiful and functional wine cellar that perfectly meets the needs of the Richmond homeowner.
This in-home wine cellar in Arlington will amaze you and make you think: How can such a small space gracefully contain up to 500 bottles of wine? You will have to wonder because this former storage shed seemed an unlikely location. In fact, the couple who owns the house was initially considering the guest bedroom for a wine cellar, but Harvest Wine Cellars saw some potential issues. One: There will be no space for their kids to stay when they come over during important holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Two: the room is too big for 500 wine bottles at most.
The team then looked elsewhere and found that they can turn the storage shed to wine cellar in their beautiful Arlington residence. This curious transformation is a thing of beauty for homeowners who want to convert their small, unused spaces into a dazzling wine room that’s functional and elegant.
From an Idle Shed to an Exquisite In-home Wine Cellar Arlington Residents Will Fancy
The in-home wine cellar in Arlington was originally a shed where lawn equipment and other gears are stored. With its own pitched roof, the shed leads up to the living room and dining room in the hallway, and then to the master bedroom. After evaluating the space and sizing an appropriate cooling unit, Harvest Wine Cellars determined the shed could be the ideal wine cellar location. The transformation process involved removing the shed’s original double doors and framing in a new exterior wall. The interior walls were also taken down to connect the wine cellar directly to the home.
To make the wine cellar’s design as remarkable as a gem, Harvest Wine Cellars partners with Kessick, which supplied most of the elements.
Wine As Art Wine Display System: The Perfect Wine Cellar Racking for this In-Home Wine Cellar in Arlington
Being creative can be a challenge when working with a small space like this in home wine cellar in Arlington. But, Harvest Wine Cellar managed to set up the entire collection with elegant craftsmanship, utilizing two different concepts of racking.
The wine cellar has just the right dimensions to accommodate up to 500 wine bottles, but installing a wine racking system haplessly might compromise the space. So, for optimal wine storage, our team used Kessick’s single and double-deep Wine As Art wall-mounted wine display system.
Walking into the room from the kitchen area, the first thing that you will notice straight ahead on the focal wall is the Parallel double-deep horizontal racking where wine bottles are displayed label-forward. It can store large-format bottles, 750 mls, and three-liter bottles altogether. This display strategy works both ways because you can view the wine labels from the inside and outside of the cellar.
Coming in from the kitchen, on the left wall are European panels where the wines are displayed in nose-out pins position.
Regulating the Temperature in a Glass Wine Cellar in Kitchen
Regulating the temperature in a wine cellar is a critical aspect so the team made sure to build the right insulation and install an appropriate cooling system. We took the double door on the backwall out, repaneled it, and replace the R13 insulation with close cells R31. Considering that the walls are exposed to the sun, the team though it best to use a higher R-value.
After much consideration, Harvest Wine Cellars installed the Wine Guardian Cooling System D050 with the outdoor condenser attached through the line set.
Ambient Lighting for an Elegant Glass Wine Cellar in Kitchen
One of the elements that make a wine cellar, let alone a glass wine cellar in kitchen, truly inviting and ambient is the lighting. For this in home wine cellar in Arlington, what would be the best approach? Our design team then decided to put lighting only in the ceiling and then let the Wine As Art’s lighted wine display system complete the ensemble.
The display shelves installed off the wall come with rope lighting routed along the back perimeter edge, giving off a soft glow. Aside from the sophisticated and relaxing look this obscure lighting gives, it also protects the eyes from sudden and distracting glares.
Using Brillante Hardware for a Gentle, Contemporary Look
Transforming this idle and overlooked storage shed to wine cellar in Arlington has been an artistic and rewarding experience. What was once a simple, modest-looking space has been meticulously reimagined and renovated into a contemporary, sophisticated wine room.
The expert team at Harvest Wine Cellar masterfully crafted this new wine sanctuary, utilizing Kessick’s sleek and durable Brillante material with an elegant black stain. The result is a striking, modern wine room that beautifully showcases the homeowner’s prized wine collection in a stylish, temperature-controlled environment.
Glass Doors
Adding elegance and contemporary feel to this in home wine cellar in Arlington are the double pane insulated glass doors. Supported by a sturdy two-inch thick steel post, the left side of the door is composed of hinged glass panels that open smoothly to allow access, while the right side pane remains fixed in place. These expansive, full-height glass doors measuring 30 inches wide are outfitted with self-closing patch-style pivot hinges, enabling seamless, entry and exit.
This thoughtful door configuration not only enhances the contemporary aesthetic, but also helps maintain the carefully regulated temperature and climate within the wine cellar. The pivot hinge system ensures the doors close tightly, preserving the optimal storage environment.
