One of the highlights of this exquisite space is the switchable privacy glass back wall that can go from opaque to clear with the flip of a switch, offering both privacy and a clear view of your wine collection. Additionally, the wine rack, featuring sleek acrylic cradles, adds a modern touch that draws the eye and enhances the overall ambiance of the cellar.

What Makes This Corolla, NC Home’s Wine Cellar with Acrylic Wall Wine Rack Special?

The story behind this wine cellar with acrylic wall wine rack in Corolla is as captivating as the cellar itself. The clients had purchased their home during the early days of COVID-19, opting to completely renovate the property before moving in. With walls and ceilings that exude contemporary elegance paired with a traditional yet modern flair, they wanted their wine cellar to seamlessly integrate with the rest of their renovation. This desire for a cohesive design led to the creation of a stunning ground-floor wine cellar that is both a functional storage space and a statement piece.

Located on the first floor or ground level, this wine cellar greets you as you walk in the door. Situated in the back right corner of the home, it acts as a grand entrance to the foyer. The glass-enclosed wine cellar measures 12 feet wide by 3.5 feet deep, providing ample space to house a collection of up to 475 bottles. Those who want a basement wine cellar of their own will surely find this creation an inspiring design.

The construction of the cellar was meticulously planned, with the switchable glass being installed first, followed by the racking, and finally the front glass. This careful sequencing ensured that every element was perfectly aligned, resulting in a wine cellar with acrylic wall mounted wine rack that is as practical as it is beautiful.

An Impressive Acrylic Wall Wine Rack

A key feature of this glass wine cellar is the wine racking system with acrylic cradles, which perfectly complements the contemporary design of the space. Acrylic is an ideal material for wine cellars, offering both durability and a sleek, modern appearance. It’s resistant to moisture and won’t warp or crack over time, making it a great choice for long-term wine storage.

The Elevation (by Kessick) racking system used in this project is double-deep horizontal racking with acrylic cradles. The design team prefers clean, straight lines, which is why they opted for a horizontal label-forward configuration. Elevation offers a variety of designs and styles, including single, double, and triple-deep racking options. For this particular cellar, the clients chose double-deep racking, which is installed on both the left and right walls. This choice was driven by the clients’ needs; they had no desire to increase capacity by adding a third row.

The racking system is incredibly solid and is floor-mounted because the top couldn’t be mounted due to a soffit. The bottom of the racking system comes pre-drilled, allowing for easy installation and ensuring that the system is securely anchored.

An Edgy Switchable Glass Back Wall That Makes This Wine Cellar a Contemporary Masterpiece

Aside from the acrylic wall wine rack, the switchable glass that serves as the back wall is another incredible feature. This glass is not only visually striking but also highly functional, providing both privacy and UV protection. As you walk down the hallway towards the wine cellar, the switchable glass immediately draws your attention. When switched on, particles within the double-pane glass react to create a fog-like appearance, giving you the option for privacy. Alternatively, you can switch the glass to clear mode, allowing you to showcase your wine collection in all its glory.

The switchable glass was installed by another contractor, but it’s a feature that Harvest Wine Cellars was excited to incorporate into the project. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the glass also offers a higher level of UV protection compared to standard half-inch glass, which is crucial for preserving the quality of the wine stored within the cellar. Additionally, the insulation values are likely better than standard glass, ensuring that the wine cellar maintains a consistent temperature.

A Cooling Unit That’s as Stable and Durable as the Acrylic Wine Rack in Corolla, Outer Banks NC

Maintaining the perfect temperature and humidity level is crucial for any wine cellar, and this project was no exception. To achieve this, the team used the Wine Guardian DO50 cooling unit, which was installed in a closet located behind the wine cellar. The cooling system was carefully designed to work with the unique layout of the cellar, with supply vents running through the ceiling joists and leading to two separate supply points on the left and right sides of the cellar. The return vent is positioned on the left side, while the supply vent is on the right, ensuring that the entire space is evenly cooled.

Given that the wine cellar with acrylic wall wine rack features glass on both the front and back walls of this North Carolina home, choosing the right cooling system was particularly important. If the cellar had solid interior walls, a simpler system might have sufficed. However, the glass enclosure required a more robust solution, and the Wine Guardian DO50 was the perfect fit for the job.

Glass Doors

The wine cellar’s design is further enhanced by the glass entry doors at the front. These doors not only provide easy access to the cellar but also contribute to the overall aesthetic by allowing light to flow through the space. The glass doors, combined with the switchable glass back wall, create a sense of openness and transparency, making the wine cellar feel like an integral part of the home rather than a closed-off storage space.

Lighting System

Lighting plays a crucial role in the design of this wine cellar, highlighting the beauty of the wine bottles and the overall design of the wine cellar with acrylic wall wine rack in Corolla. In many modern wine cellars, lighting is installed along the top and bottom of the racking system, which allows the labels to be illuminated, making it easy to identify each bottle. This glass-enclosed wine cellar follows that trend, with lighting installed both at the top and bottom of the acrylic wall mounted wine rack.

The lighting was meticulously milled into the racking system at the mill, ensuring that it blends seamlessly with the design. This thoughtful approach to lighting not only enhances the functionality of the cellar but also adds to its visual appeal, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes you want to linger and admire the collection.
