Contemporary Custom Home Sauna in Owings Mills, Maryland
Light Alaska Yellow Cedar, extensive glass and clean lines integrate a three- to four-person custom sauna into a primary bathroom.
The Project
A Contemporary Sauna Designed as Part of the Bathroom
Harvest completed this contemporary custom home sauna in Owings Mills, Maryland as part of a primary bathroom, using Alaska Yellow Cedar and extensive glass to create a clean, open appearance.
The finished sauna was designed for approximately three to four people and uses a 10.5 kW Harvia OY stainless-steel heater. Its straight lines and restrained material palette allow the room to feel intentional within the larger bathroom design.
Harvest plans custom saunas around the available space, desired capacity, wood selection, glass configuration and heating requirements of each home.
Design Detail
A Contemporary Alaska Yellow Cedar Interior
Instead of the darker, more traditional visual language used in many residential saunas, this project emphasizes straight lines and a restrained contemporary design.
Alaska Yellow Cedar gives the room a light, refined wood finish that works particularly well beside the dark glass and stone surfaces of the primary bathroom.
Project Feature
A Glass Front and Glass End Panel
A full glass front and glass end panel visually open the sauna to the surrounding bathroom. The transparent surfaces reduce the sense of enclosure while allowing the cedar benchwork and linear detailing to remain visible from outside the room.
This approach turns the sauna into an integrated architectural feature rather than a separate closed-off space.
Planning & Performance
Designed for Three to Four People
The bench layout and heater specification were planned for a three- to four-person sauna. Multi-level seating makes efficient use of the room while preserving the straight-lined contemporary appearance.
A 10.5 kW Harvia OY stainless-steel heater provides the heating capacity for the completed sauna without interrupting the clean interior design.
