This Richmond, Virginia residential project shows how a custom sauna can be integrated into a relatively compact area off a primary bathroom.
Harvest designed the traditional Western Red Cedar sauna for approximately two to three people and paired it with a 6 kW Harvia heater. The finished room adds a private sauna experience without requiring an oversized dedicated wellness space elsewhere in the home.

A Compact Sauna Beside the Primary Bathroom
The project was planned around an existing residential area rather than a large dedicated room. Positioning the sauna off the primary bathroom gives the homeowner direct access to a private wellness feature.
A glazed wood door allows light from the adjacent space to reach the sauna while keeping the installation visually connected to the surrounding interior.
Traditional Western Red Cedar Interior
Western Red Cedar gives the room the warm tone and familiar character of a traditional home sauna. The bench layout uses the available dimensions efficiently while maintaining seating for approximately two to three people.
The construction photos and layout drawing show how the finished benchwork was planned around the compact footprint before the cedar interior was installed.
Sized for a 6 kW Harvia Heater
A 6 kW traditional Harvia heater was selected for the completed room. The heater is positioned beside the seating and protected by a cedar guard that coordinates with the rest of the interior.
Matching the heater to the room size and construction is an important part of designing a residential sauna that heats appropriately and performs as intended.
